Student Exchange Programme

Our Student Exchange Programme gives international students the opportunity to experience life and study at a premium UK boarding school for a short-term stay. We arrange the school placement, act as the student's educational guardian throughout the stay and support families at every step, so students gain British education, language immersion and cultural experience in a safe, fully supervised environment.

An Immersive Exchange in a British Classroom

An exchange placement gives a student a full term or more in a top UK boarding school. They will experience the true UK boarding school experience, attending lessons alongside British pupils, living on-campus in the school's boarding houses, and gaining a real sense of whether a longer-term boarding stay would suit them.

Who Is This Programme For?

Our Student Exchange Programme is available to all students aged 11 to 17 at any time during the year. The programme is designed to allow students to experience life overseas on exchange without affecting their home education, with times of departure varying according to the city or school they choose. Students experience British student life in a new home town while attending a local boarding school.

It is ideal for a student who hopes to experience an exchange but is unable to miss school at home.

A Crucial Step Before Committing

Many families use a short-term exchange placement to test the water before applying for a long-term, multi-year boarding place. If that is your plan, please let us know. We will suggest partner schools where progressing from a short-term stay to a full-time boarding place is a smooth and straightforward process, and our UK Boarding School Admissions page explains the full application route.

What to Expect from a Student Exchange

From the moment your child arrives, they follow the same rhythm as their British classmates: morning registration, lessons across the full curriculum, sport in the afternoons and the social life of the school community. Everything happens in English, all day, which is why even a short exchange delivers language progress that classroom lessons at home cannot match.

Throughout the stay, we remain the student's educational guardian and the family's point of contact in the UK. Parents receive updates on how their child is settling in, the school knows exactly who to call, and the student has someone local to turn to at any time. Students return home more confident, more independent, and with friendships and an insight into British life that stay with them long after the exchange ends.

Admission Deadlines

Exchange placements depend on the term dates and capacity of the host school, so timing matters. As a rule, apply at least one term ahead of the intended stay: autumn term placements are best arranged by the end of the previous spring, and January placements before the autumn half term. See our UK Admission Deadlines page for the key dates across the academic year, and contact us early if your dates are fixed by the home school's calendar.

What Type of Guardianship Is Required?

Every international student under 18 on an exchange placement needs a UK-based educational guardian, and guardianship is built into this programme: we act in that role for the whole stay. Because an exchange is a short-term visit, it is covered by our Short Stay Guardianship, which includes airport transfers, a UK point of contact for the school, the host family and parents, and support if your child is unwell or plans change unexpectedly.

Requirements can vary by school and by visa route, so always check the official requirements of the host school and the current UK government guidance before travelling. If you are unsure what applies to your child, contact us and we will confirm it for you as part of the placement.
