Summary

The Whistleblowing Policy promotes a culture of openness, transparency, and accountability within British Guardianship. It outlines how staff, volunteers, contractors, and host families can safely report concerns relating to wrongdoing, safeguarding, misconduct, legal breaches, or risks to children. The policy aligns with the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 and safeguarding legislation, ensuring whistleblowers are protected from retaliation, victimisation, or dismissal. Concerns can be raised internally or externally through bodies such as the NSPCC, Protect, AEGIS, or the Local Authority Designated Officer. Safeguarding concerns are treated as a priority and must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

To make sure this policy always reflects the highest standards of student care, it is reviewed and updated every year in line with UK safeguarding requirements and the standards set by our accrediting bodies, AEGIS and the Boarding Schools' Association (BSA). This annual review ensures our approach keeps pace with changes in legislation, official guidance, and best practice, including the evolving nature of online risks, so that students, parents, and schools can be confident our procedures remain current and effective.
